I attended the Core Education breakfast meeting a couple of weeks ago in Wellington (well worth going if you are in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch). The speaker,Rachael Bolsted included this great quote.
I love the concept that education is about cultivation - tending and nurturing the whole child, and in a Discovery Time session, finding a student's potential is one of the key benefits.
We frequently have teachers say to us that they didn't know a student had a particular strength until they stepped back and observed it during Discovery Time.

This huge truck arrived this week with the reprint of our "Fantail's Quilt" book.The first print run of a thousand books sold out in 6 weeks. Wonderful night at Pataka Museum & Gallery launching our fantail book.Thanks to all that came and supported us. It has been overwhelming to hear all your positive affirmation. We went on a hunt for native snails on Friday with Ian Crooksley from DOC. This is the start of our next book.
"No Child Left Behind" - what can we learn?
This initiative was an attempt to target the under achievement of a large section of American students. It was based on the concept of developing a set of National Satandards to test children, gather school information........
..all sounds familiar to us here in NZ.
Now President Obama has declared the programme to have had no significant impact on student achievement and so will be disbanded
